ORLANDO, Fla.--AFRO TV today unveiled AFROJams, its new Live Concert Series for the virtual era hosted by renowned singer Sisaundra Lewis from NBC The Voice. The series will kick off Live on May 18, 2021 with performances from 6 groundbreaking and very popular Haitian Artists in celebration of the 218th anniversary of the Haitian Flag: Rutshelle Guillaume, Fatima Altieri, J-Perry, Michael Benjamin, Anie Alèrte and Lynn Betty.

NCTC Strikes Carriage Deal for AFRO Channel

​Afrotainment Signs Agreement with NCTC to Make AFRO Available to NCTC Member Companies

NEW YORK – Afrotainment announced today that they have completed a multi-year agreement with the National Cable Television Cooperative (NCTC) that will permit NCTC’s members to distribute AFRO.

NCTC represents more than 750 small and mid-sized independent cable and broadband operators across the U.S.  Under the terms of the agreement, all NCTC member systems will be able to opt-in to a carriage agreement for AFRO.

AFRO, which is owned by Afrotainment, is a 24-hour polycultural black network broadcasting top-rated Nollywood and black movies, dramas, sitcoms, music, talk, and late night comedy shows.

"We are thrilled to bring AFRO’s live content and growing on demand catalog of  300+ hours of original programming to millions of NCTC customers. This agreement marks an important milestone in our continued growth strategy to increase our nationwide distribution footprint, and we look forward to a great partnership with the NCTC" said Yves Bollanga, Founder and CEO of Afrotainment.

NCTC members will be able to launch AFRO as a linear channel along with optional VOD library, TV Everywhere and OTT.

Comcast signs a major agreement with Afrotainment


Philadelphia, PA – November 15, 2018

After a thorough evaluation of dozens of proposals, Comcast Corporation (Nasdaq: CMCSA) announced today it has selected AFRO, a channel from Afrotainment to be broadly distributed on Comcast Cable systems beginning in January 2019. Comcastselected AFRO which provides quality entertainment that highlights and features TV and movie content about African American and black communities.

To narrow down the proposals received, the main criteria Comcast considered were: the content of the network; whether the network is fully financed; whether the network’s ownership and/or management group(s) are well established, have relevant experience, and are substantially owned by African Americans; whether the network is already launched and has existing or potential multichannel video programming distributor (MVPD) distribution; price; and whether the network and its potential carriage provide value to Comcast and its customers. 

In 2011, as part of Comcast’s commitments made in connection with the NBCUniversal transaction, Comcast agreed to launch 4 new independently owned and operated African American networks. In 2012, Comcast launched ASPiRE and REVOLT two networks respectively owned by Magic Johnson and Puff Daddy. In January 2019 Comcast will launch AFRO and CLEO TV (a channel owned by Urban One) as part of this commitment. AFRO and CLEO TV will join over 100 diverse networks available across Xfinity platforms.
